Phalaenopsis split

I re-potted this Phal about a month ago and now see a second shoot appearing on the right. Should I split it into two plants or leave well alone.

I'd let it grow a couple more leaves first.

I'd never divide it. I'd let it grow on. Once mature you'll then have twice the number of spikes and more and better flowers.

Is the second shoot a basal keiki?

I agree with Kmarch. My first orchid was a NOID phal with 3 "sections", for want of a better word. They are connected, but each has its own roots and each one blooms separately. Puts on quite a show!

But, having said that... I repotted it last week. It was in an 8" pot to accommodate all the roots etc., and I was concerned about it staying too wet in the center. When it came out of the pot, one section was pretty loose, so I just detached it and potted it up separately. It's still a good size phal and looks great. So now I have "Siamese twins" (instead of triplets) and their slightly smaller sister.

Wish I knew what cross it is -- it has clusters of smallish light yellow flowers on not-too-tall spikes, with a fragrance like daffodils.

that's really pretty! I was never a fan of yellow until my hubby got me a NOID yellow phal for our anniversary. Now I love 'em!

leave it for now and if you decide that you want 2 plants you can repot and divide later. Much better for the plants.
