My Little Piece of Paradise

I hope this happens with the photos....My cymbidiums...not in flower yet , but a few spikes ...2nd photo a small orchid of unknown variety ....perhaps someone can help....3rd photo ...my one and only phale...it was given to me by my Grand kids...on arrival it was looking very sad and the flowers were "gone" so I took the plunge and took to it with the knife. I now have a brand new shoot appearing, (very proud) and is doing well. I am now on a crusade to get a small miniature green house up and running to cater for any new arrivals.......Regards......AL

Hi Allen and welcome to the site
The 2nd pic looks very much like a Dendrobium gracillimum, but not 100% sure on that

Thanks for that Steve...It was given to me in a very poor state...it resided under some pine trees...as you can see, its a healthy plant now. Anything else I should do around this time of the year? fertilize? or wait till spring?...again, thanks for your quick reply............Regards....AL

Just wtaer when the mix is near dry, fertilise weekly at 1/4 strength with a good orchid fertiliser ( less in winter as it takes longer for the mix to dry out) Plenty of bright light, 50% Shade. Should be initiating flower spikes about now,

Steve

Great looking plants and a good rescue, #2 looks like a Den to me but I'm a Phal guy so not sure. I think I have read your in winter now, over here we are going into summer, in winter here our chids get a cool down time and work on growth, so maybe the same for you but I'll let those more familiar with your climate chime in on that one Good luck

We use "Peters Excel Hi K". You can get it here Australian Orchid Nursery - Orchid Fertilisers . NO EXPORT DUE TO NITRATE CONTENT ( Not allowed on Aircraft). If its good enough for those who grow them for a living, then its good enough for us We have just set up an automatic fertilising system using this fert, so when we water it fertilises via an injection system into the water line
Michael, we have spikes everywhere atm on a lot of our Aussie Dens. Some of our 6 year old speciosums have initiated their first ever spikes as well and are going to be spectacular when they flower.
Steve

Should be "up" here. You know...northern vs southern hemisphere. Sorry... I couldn't resist giving a friendly little jab at that.

Welcome Allen! Looks like you're doing very well w/your orchids. Good job on the Cym! You should have a lovely show very soon.

I think you are all backward up there Greybeard as everthing goes anticlockwise. As for us we are normal as we go clockwise with time

No offence intended
