Pictures from my "sphag and bag" come backs!

Hello all! I have been asked several times to post pictures of my modified sphag n bag trick so here are some

**note they have all been in bags for about 1 1/2 months**

The first 2 pictures are of my Catt (which has shown the biggest improvement, it had NO ROOTS when I put it in the bag)
The 3rd picture is of my Psycopsis with 2 new growths and 3 new roots (It looks very similar to a Mendenhall but I am not positive on that ID)
The last picture is my set up (the Catt is now in a pot with a bag over the top and plastic wrap with a little container with water in it... I am slowly bringing it from the bag to pot, I dont want to shock it by a huge sudden change)

The other plants I have in bags have shown new growth/roots but unless I had a before/after picture you wouldnt really be able to tell yet

Wow, I'm not having much luck with my cattleya. I noticed you used a bag to cover it completely. It looks steamy. It doesn't rot?

Hi NewGrower, I have one catt on life support in sphag and bag. It's has roots coming in but no new growth yet. I keep the bag open at the top to prevent too much moisture build up. Do you have any openings at all in yours? How do you keep the whole plant from sinking into the water in the baggies

Nice job! I've got two divisions of a Catt I was giving back in early April that I finally decided to give some ICU sphag and bag treatment to. The first division started sprouting well, (although the buds were deep purple?), then after about a month, they just stopped growing. The second division hasn't put out anything in almost 2 months now, so they're both in the high humidity, reduced light atmosphere of S&B! Hope I have even a little bit of the success you're showing.
Cheers,
Tony

Hi Newgrower. This is mine. Keep us informed on progress on your chids. I tried the same, with the spag and bag. No luck. Even with spag. moss wrapped around base, in a pot, no roots. It is now sitting on top of bark mix, secured to a stake. I even had it suspended in "willow water" for 24 hours. Still no roots.

Well I am not using moss, and I think that is part of the reason its working!

What I am doing is putting each orchid in its own big baggie (the Catt had 2 baggies at first because it is the biggest plant I have using this) with a folded up paper towel. I have cut one of the bottom corners off of the baggie and then on the opposite side (about mid way up) I cut about a 1 inch vent as well. Every other day I mist inside of the baggie (and every day for the Catt because it was bigger) to keep it moist. At first I had a skewer in there "propping" up the baggie but the skewer would grow mold quickly so I no longer do that. I also soak the plants every 4-6 days for 6-8 hours and when I do I dry out the baggies and change out the paper towel.
Last Monday I moved the Catt from the 2 baggies to its own pot with the baggie and plastic wrap with a bowl of water under the pot (and I also mist the leaves/roots every day).

Also I would like to add my little Phal now has a 2nd new leaf growing and its little root nubs seem to be growing slightly as well!

This can seem like a lot of work but its so worth it

Hi, just to clarify.....what does the paper towel do? What do you soak the Cat. in for 6-8 hrs.

The paper towel keeps some water in the bag to raise humidity... I soak them in water (every other time I will add a few spoonfuls of brown sugar as well)
