Question From Sphag n bag to pot...

Hello all!
Recently I have been trying to save some of my almost kills... LUCKILY for me they are all coming back to life in my version of the sphag n bag trick ( well instead of moss I am using a paper towel, it seems to cut back on mold for me )...
How much new growth or how long should the roots be before they can be transplanted into a pot (sucessfully!!)
I know the more roots the better but at the same time its kind of a pain to keep them in there (although I rather keep them alive so I will do whatever I need to)

Thanks

some time it is beyong your control. Keeping an plant in a sealed bag for too long often invite pathogen to grow as well. The balance of good versus bad sometime is just let play out by itself. If you get two inch of roots that would be great. There is no absolute number as some time you get lucky having them in the bag for 6 months. It also depend on what type of orchids you are referring to. Phal 6 months is enough. Dendrobium slightly slower may be 9 months. I have a few cane of dendrobium, i left them laying around , 9 months later. it come out with some awesome roots. Some just rotted and die.

My Catt 3 roots that are about 1'' and 3 or 4 root nubs coming out with LOTS of new growth (5 new growths actually!)... My other 2 still need some time but have new roots and new growths so I am very excited this method is working!
Anyways today I put my Catt into its pot and still put the baggie over the leaves (and had to add cling wrap so it would go all the way down to the pot... my baggie wasnt big enough alone!)

I was hoping soon it would be able to go out on its own but I am thinking I will give it more time (its been in there about 1 1/2 months or so)
Thanks!

I've heard that keikis can be potted once they have three 1" roots or one 3" roots (basically 3" worth of roots total), and I would think the same applies here. I'm no expert though.

I would tend to agree with Emma.Grey. I've had a rescue Catt. put out several new growth points, but not one new root yet, and its been over 2 1/2 months now, but hey, where there's life there's hope, right
Continued success,
Tony

My Catt has about 3'' of roots so yesterday I moved it to its pot BUT with a baggie over the leaves still just so its not a huge "shock" ... I also took pictures so once they are uploaded to my computer I will share! I have to say out of all the orchids that I am "saving" that one has taken off the most! Its a fighter

Good luck with it! Sounds like its coming along. Keep an eye for any fungal issues , they can pop up using the bag method as digital stated. I know it happened to me before... But sounds like you got it working out good right now for you
