Zygopetalum piece broken off what to do?

I just brought home a zygopetalum from my first every orchid society raffle(Hehee, I cleaned up winning 2 new orchids and a couple of magazines). This morning while looking at it a piece of growth broke off, no bulb, just growth. I was wondering if there is anything that can be done with it to start a new plant? I thinking nothing ventured nothing gained!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Oh by the way anyone that has not joined the orchid society in their neighbourhood should!!!! Thanks Cindy

Hi Cindy
As the pice that broke off has no root system it will not grow for you.
( sorry about that )
You can split your Zygo to have more plants when the time is right.
As you are new to orchids I would not advise to do that as yet.
I thankyou for the Question because if you dont ask you will never know.
Happy Growing

Hay!
The red one is 'Zygopetalum Louisendorf'. I bought the purple one without a name. (Who knows??)
I keep them on a windowsill during the winter and in the spring I put them out.
I water them ones a week ...

(I bought them for less than 1 $ )
