| Dendrochilum care
OK, I got both a Den wenzelii and a formosanum in February at a show. The formosanum was in flower, the wenzelii in bud.
Within two weeks of the snow, the formosanum dropped its flowers, but considering I didn't know how long it had been in flower, I didn't panic. But now the leaves are dying. There are two leaves that aren't dried and wrinkled. Granted, it only had 7-8 leaves to begin with - it's a small plant in a 3" pot - but still!! I cannot see any new growth, although this is my first attempt with this species, so maybe I'm missing it.
The wenzelii is also unhappy, because 5 out of the 6 spikes have dried up just prior to flowering. One still looks ok, and a 7th isn't all the way developed yet.
Clearly, I'm doing something wrong. Speaking of which, this is what I'm doing:
At first, the Dens lived among my phals in pretty high indirect light. No direct light. That was for a couple weeks. I water them whenever their medium (looks like tiny rocks to me, with little bark chips, too) was dry. I water them more often than the phals, so about every 4 or 5 days. The humidity in here, thanks to a humidifier, stays at 40 or above almost constantly.
Now I have moved them (along with everyone else) under lights - two T8 fluorescent bulbs - but that was only two days ago, so I'm assuming that the plants were already in trouble before I did that.
Is it time to pull it out of the pot and check the roots?
Anyone here with dendrochilums? Lemme know how you grow them, because clearly I'm doing something wrong!
