Orchids and Spirit- do you include it?

Hello all!
While repotting a few of my new orchids this morning, I started to think about my philosophy regarding raising orchids. I'm one of those types of people that likes to talk to them, I touch their leaves and clean them with my fingers if I think I need to connect to them

They reside in my prayer and meditation area and not only that, I'm very big on placing quartz, obsidians, pieces of agates, fossilized shells, etc in the pots for energy.

I believe in the sanctity of all life no matter whether it be animal or plant and I also believe that energy flows from all things (no I was not a new-ager!)

I'm just a kitchen hobbyist with a dozen or so mostly rescued orchids. I'd really love to know what other philosophies are out there, from professionals to the "I got my first orchid today" lucky soul!

Thanx everyone for reading,

Neo:

I think it's a really nice feeling to take care of a living growing thing. I've felt much closer to nature since I began this hobby. Most of us spend 90% of our time indoors, so we loose that connection to nature to an extent.

Very interesting, many years ago their was a Bishop in England growing Orchids, he played Opera music softly to his plants when he was working in the Orchid house.
He reconded it worked.
I think if we love our plants, respect them and enjoy working in the Orchid house no mater how much re-potting etc has to be done. Our plants will appreciate it by growing better. When we see our orchid plants producing beautiful flowers year after year, growing so well, how could one not love his hobby.
Keep up the good spirits, body and soul.

I look them over and just sit and stare at them sometimes. When I am having a bad day looking at those beautiful flowers certainly lifts my spirits. I even try coaxing flowers out sometimes. :P

Hello and welcome to the forum
I find tending my orchids very relaxing and stress relieving. By no means have I ever considered it a chore or a job to be done. They bring me peace and quiet my mind so I guess in a sense its a form of meditation and bringing me closer to nature in a sense.
My hobby use to be fishing and I didn't care if I caught anything it was all about being out in nature. since I can't get away like that much these days, my life has gotten quite busy, I found a beautiful Phal one day..... The rest is history
Enjoy your stay and we love pics (hint hint) lol
Again welcome to the forum

Like orchids4me, I like to fish and haunt the shoreline. (We live on opposite sides of the same piece of water.) But today, I started checking my orchids, found some that needed watering, then started some repotting I'd put off. Before I knew it, the afternoon was gone and I was feeling very satisfied and happy. I found new roots, new leads, old bulbs to be removed. It felt just like watching a child show off new skills. I don't think of myself as a crystal/energy person, but the tie to the natural force of growth is unarguable. We each find our inspiration in just the right place.
