Just mounted P. schilleriana

Just mounted P. schilleriana.
This is one out of the flask I bought a few months ago.
It has been placed on a rather large piece of tree fern, another one was mounted on a 10 inch x 6 inch piece of CoCo mat.
Will give TLC until the roots reestablish themselves
I have mounted a 2 meter by 1 meter galvanized sheet of mesh about 6 inches away from the wall.
Hopefully I can add a lot more mounts as I get the plants ready
Cheerio

Those schillies look really nice. Will the foliage be hanging down, or oriented to grow upwards?

I have mounted them as out of the pots but as the leaves grow bigger I expect due to the weigh they will hang down
Thanks

You need to place your wire on the opposite end. The schillie will grow upright and never grow down like a violacea or gigantea.

In the current position the weight could possibly be too much and you could snap your stem.

Interesting Brooke, I have a schillie in a pot and all the leaves are try to hang down, so I did it this way thinking the weight will pull them downwards.
If I turn the lot around will the roots and the leaves grow upright or will the roots grow downwards!

Been looking at a lot of mounted schillerianas and they seem to be all mounted this way.

Should have sought better advice.
Thanks, I will be doing a few more soon so will try them upside down!

They look very nice Ron though I've not got this type mounted at purchase to know which way. Brooke's a good source for very accurate info I noticed she has a lot of mounted orchids.
Good luck with your babies Ron
Look forward to updates as they grow

I guess because you are "down under" your schillie grows different than the ones up here on the "top side"

As you know roots on a potted plant appear around the stem of the plant. It is the same way on a mount - you will have roots growing up and down.

Many thanks, in future I will grow them all from the bottom of the mount, makes sense after seeing Zildjian photos.
Great help and assistance for the Geeks as per usual.

PhalPal he has the crown pointing up, not down. IMO the hanging wire should be on the other end of the mount.
