New to Forum

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I just returned from the Philadelphia Flower Show. They had many lovely orchids. I took pictures of them all, but the lighting is not the best in the convention center, and the photographs didn't show the details that makes the orchids so unique. I also visit Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pa and love their orchid showroom in the conservatory. If anyone ever has a chance to visit there...please do. An international orchid show will be held there March 30th through April 1st.

Hi Kad, Thanks for the info, maybe someone will pick up on it. If you see some unusual plants on your visits it would be nice to share them on the forum with pictures. Good to have you onboard. Bill

If in doubt about the light, use flash, providing the subject isn't more than 10 to 15 feet away.

I quite often use flash to highlight things EVEN IN BRIGHT SUN. It's called Fillin Flash, and is balanced by your camera's lightmeter to give just the right amount of light to fill in the shadow areas.

Last year I went to the Spring Orchid Show here in Adelaide, and there was sufficient light coming through the windows to not turn on the flash which was on Auto. I TOOK ONE SHOT, TOO DARK, over rode the Auto setting to make the flash work on every shot and that gave me nice balanced images.

Here is an image to demonstrate how it works.

Kmarch, I grow paphiopedilum, dendrobium and phaleonopsis. I can't seem to get the paphiopedilums to rebloom though. One had a bud once, but it shriveled and died. Phaleonopsis do great for me though. I will keep trying. I love all of them...
