Cymbidium prunning?

I am growing my first Cymbidium. There were two stocks, one full of bloom and the second with buds when I bought it. The first stem is showing blackness from the base up tothe last bloom that has not dropped. There are 5 more blooms on the first stem.
Questions?
Is the darkness normal as the plant ages?
When all bloom have gone from this stem, at what level do I prune back?

You can cut the brown or black stalks as low as you can. With cyms once the flowers wilt the stalk will die or go brown.

A photo would be helpful in diagnosing whether the "blackness" you describe is normal aging or something pathological. If your cymbidium has two blooming growths, you would expect it to be putting out some new growths from the old ones before they die down. Usually the old growths last several years after they have bloomed.
