Dockrillia linguiforme Question

Would you set this onto another larger branch as it looks like it is out growing it's present one ?

If so, how do you go about transplanting a plant like this ?

I don't want to destroy the root system.

There is a lot of sentimentality with this plant, it was grown by my father who grew orchids and died 23 years ago. The last time it flowered was on the day of his funeral, he had waited 10 years for it to flower, pity he didn't live to appreciate it.

So, Don't want to compromise it in any way.

Not sure whether it is being looked after carefully, but it has lived this long, so .................

Considering the sentimental value I do not understand why you want to move it.

With commercial plants and no sentimental value, I would cut the mount where I wanted to divide the plant, or even rip a piece off accepting damaged roots.

In your case if you are most interested in a piece for a family member etc, I would put a new piece of mount near the growing end and let the plant grow onto the new mount. When it was large enough, I would then cut off this piece, which will put minimum stress on the parent.

Thanks Jerry, that sounds the most "humane" and safest way to do it.

It will need to be done probably next year as it is getting too big for the small branch it is on at present.
