keeping Ghost orchids?

Hi all, I was looking at Oak Hills's website shopping for orchids when I realized they had ghost orchids for sale. Is this an orchid I can keep in my apartment or better grown outdoors? Also I know they are a very good company, and all orchids were originally harvested from the wild, but I almost feel bad about having one because of thier rarity. If anyone keeps one or has any comments about keeping them please let me know. What cultivation tips I have gotten have been very contradictory.

Ghost orchids are not rare in cultivation. If you want 10,000 I can get them for you. They can be cloned in unlimited quantities.

It is close to hopeless to grow one in an apartment. It is extremely hard to grow them here in Florida in ideal conditions.

Even in the best of conditions when they are growing well they may not flower. They can go years between flowering. That is the nature of the plant not its growing conditions. It does not flower every year like other orchids.

I know two people in Sarasota who each have flowered the orchid, but I never asked how many years they owned them. Both have extremely good sheltered areas near streams.

They do seem to like citrus and have done well when grown on Orange trees.

Also do you realize that the plant is only roots growing around a piece of wood. The plant has chlorophyll in the roots and never develops leaves. It is a fascinating piece of nature, but not much to look at for a lot of years.

I am planning on building a terrarium for some orchids, and thought maybe I could make it happy enough to flower. I do realize there are no leaves but it would totally be worth keeping it if it would ever flower. Ill try it one day if I ever move to someplace with more ideal weather conditions.
