PrimeAgra for Tolumnias

I want to re-pot my Tolumnia and I was thinking to use Primeagra for the media. Will it work? Thank you.

I recommend against it.

In nature, tolumnias reside on tiny branches of shrubs on the windward side of Caribbean islands. They get frequently rained on and then almost immediately dried in those warm breezes. Anything that holds water will be detrimental to their well-being.

Most often, they are mounted or grown in small clay pots with no medium whatsoever.

Primeagra is a media used first in semi-hydroponics system. You can search the internet about it and you will see a lot of great results with thier orchids..and It does wonder to my orchids too.

What is your Tolumnia currently potted in? If you are successfully growing it potted in a media, why not duplicate it.

I grow some in clay pots with tree fern and prefer those to the ones in empty clay pots or mounts. I only have to water them every three days.

The only trouble I have had with this species is making sure the plant above them does not drip into the crown when it's cool.

Brooke, thanks for those pics and the great idea. I think I will get some tree fern and stick it in my pot like that, that way I can skip daily watering.

Thankyou bdelfiero, now I know what Primeagra is.

Can't see a reason why it wouldn't work for you up there, they grow Tolumnias in larva rock in far north Queensland.

They will grow in all most any media as long as they dry quickly after watering.
