Aargh! Broken stalk?

Hi and HELP,

In trying to clean up around my phals I just broke a stem about 3 inches from the end. It has (OK had) several nicely forming buds that now sit in the table. I think I know the replies that will come back, but anything I can do to reattach the busted stem or just wait and hope others form on the lower portion?

Thanks in advance for any replies, (except those telling me to be careful next time)

i recall someone had luck putting it back on if done in the first 30 min. i can't recall if it bloomed successfully after.

however, if it's completely off, i wouldn't hope for a successful graft. instead, i'd just rely on some spiking in the nodes below. you might even get a whole new spike for it.

don't worry - Phals are resilient: you'll get new blooms, either way

I agree with Phalcycle. My husband accidentally broke a spike on one of my Phals, and about a week or so later at the node there was a subspike starting, which is currently blooming as I type this

Sorry for caps, my keybaord on my laptop is messed up.
Yeah, esp. with phals, when they are in 'flower mode' but don't get to flower, they will create sub-spikes which will be a little less showy but better than nothing.

I don't think re-attatching the spike will help. It will dry and be useless. Put some kind of fungacide on it so it'll prevent secondary infection.
Good luck and good growing!

My phal started a new sub-spike in about a week or two after I broke one.
It has more flowers even. I would make a nice cut and treat it with some cinnamon, and just wait and see...........
Put the budded broken piece into a glass of water, it might bloom for you there........

You have my sympathy. I had a Phal that I have never seen bloom (I got it out of bloom). Then... it spiked! I tried to stake the spike and snapped it. I gave it 2 months and I didn't get a subspike. The break only left the bottom node, and wouldn't have looked great when it bloomed. I just wanted to see the colour. If your node is higher, leaving 2 or 3 nodes, then I am confident it will subspike!
