Plants for a cold greenhouse

Winter temperatures in my greenhouse average 5deg.C night to 13deg.C daytime. Which plants would the forum recommend that would be relatively happy in these conditions? Sometimes the night temp. will fall below 5C but will not normally drop below 0C.
Happy New Year to all Geeks, Bill.

Hi Bill,

I've got an unheated greenhouse right now, where I keep my unbloomed cymbidiums and dens. One of my cyms seemed to have benefited from it and has produced a spike. All the plants in my cold greenhouse seem healthy. For some reason, my oncs. and odons. seem to be thriving in there. Temp is about 15 C during the day and about 7.2 C at night....the temps have been dropping more and more so there are nights when temps do reach 5 C or below. However, we don't really experience frost here in Berkeley, CA where I live, so I don't know if that makes a difference.

Ok, cymbidiums will do fine.........so will Masdevallia's and Pleuro's........highly recommended and very rewarding.

Odont's and Oncid's will also do ok but it's not ideal really. Although Odont's are more suited than Oncid's.

Cool growing Chinese Paphs will also do ok like micranthum, delenatii, hangianum, malipoense etc etc........will be ok and related hybrids like Norito Hasegawa.

Slc cattleya hybrids and sophrinitis will also be ok if kept mostly dry.

Brassia and Miltoniopsis will also do ok, especially hybrids. Keep the Brassia's drier in winter.

There are other things that I can't think of but these are the main things you could probably grow ok. Really there is a huge selection in a cool growing house.......however if it grows hot in summer then it makes it a bit harder.

But you would be surprised how well things grow that commonly aren't considered tolerant of certain conditions.

EDIT P.S. Nobile Hybrids will go down to 0C without frost.......sorry remembered this as an afterthought. They are really hardy but must be kept dry when not in their active growing season.
