I have Phrag. Sergeant Eric in bloom that has done the same exact thing! Hopefully some one here has an explanation.

It should be a Phrag not a Paph. And I don't care wich way it's opening (sorry), but it's sure is absolutely stunningly beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are so lucky to have chids like that and being able to bloom them......
It's my favorite chid..............

hmmm...did you move or turn the plant while the buds were developing? that's the only thing i can think of. but hey, think of it this way....no matter which way you have the plant facing, you have at least one bloom to look at

Thank you all. Yes, DUH it is a Phrag Senior moment.
I did move it to a window and had the bloom facing west so I guess the next bloom followed the light and opened east. I kind of thought that but wanted all you experts to give me advice and actually to show off a bit that I can get these to bloom

I learned early on turning the plants while they are in bud/spike is a no-no I'm still befuddled though

This is not uncommon in phrags. It was most likely caused by moving the plant as you described.
