Node culture in soil?

Has anyone tried it? I came across a website which showed the method and i thought it was quite interesting. So i wondered whether anyone has tried it and how they've got on?

if you're talking about what i think you're talking about, i tried with with a couple phals and a den.

everything rotted. but then, i may not have done it right either.... i'm told some people have success.

I have successfully rooted dendrobium canes by putting their nodes into a bark mixture. It took forever for the plants to grow big enough to bloom.

Here is the link and some pretty cool additional information. I think I'm going to try it on some of my phals later this spring and see how it works!

Well my phal (which had 4 stems with flowers) has stopped blooming so i've given it a go. Fingers crossed!
Looks like i don't need to give the link, someone has found it for you! lol

Mike, thanks for the link!! This technique is very interesting and I imagine some of the experienced Geeks will attempt this form of growth culture. I might try it myself but I'm a bit ham-fisted. As you said, some really cool stuff. If Lotte and Thomas ever discover how to propagate all orchid species by the bark method then maybe the in vitro system will become defunct.
The node culture in soil seems too good to be true, but the pics speak for themselves. However, would one expect to see roots develope on the the seedling? At what point would the seedling be trasferred to normal orchid medium, etc.? Lots to think about. Bill

Bill - If I remember to give the node culture a go this spring I'll log the progress if anything of interest happens and let you know. One of the keys (as in just about anything related to orchids) is TIME. It will take a long time to get a viable flowering plant from this method. Based on my single experience of removing a keiki from a spike and getting that to flower, I'm guessing it will take about three years to accomplish the same process - at least in my less than ideal conditions. mike
