Fertilizer

Im almost out of my schultz's orchid food and I want to try something different. Preferably urea free. I know MSU comes highly recommended. What other brands are good?

You are going to get many many different opinions on this topic lol. Pretty much all well balanced fertilizers work if used at the proper amount. I'll never forget when a major Paph grower in the US did a presentation at my local orchid society and said they used Miracle Grow - yep regular Miracle Grow at a diluted strength. You could literally hear everyone gasping.

As for urea free, well MSU of course as you said. Personally I had a lot of issues with MSU.

I use Dynamite slow release (which does contain some urea, some non urea Nitrogen) and supplement with Dyna Gro. I have found over the years, this combo works the best for me.

I use Miracle Grow formula for orchids diluted (that is when I remember to use it. I am not good at remembering that stuff!)

This is exactly what I do, too.

I use Jacks Classic 20-20-20, which I pick up at orchid shows. Also use worm tea when I have it, but this may not be a fertilizer so much as a fertilizer "enabler."

I am using BETTER-GRO Orchid Plus Fertilizer. It's urea-free and you can buy it at Lowe's.

Right now I'm using Better Gro. I have and was using MSU for the past three years, but many of my leaves are looking too pale, so I'm trying a higher nitrogen fert. I don't think MSU enhanced flowering for me.

G'Day Exasperatus2002

Strangely enough I use about 4 or so different ones at different times. I was told by an old bloke we wouldn't like bacon and eggs every meal so why expect plants to like the same every meal? Probably sounds strange but works for me! Have been doing this for past 5 months or so.

Cheers
Bernie
