I need some "tropical" advice

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if this is normal due to the season or can someone please give me some idea of what is going on. I live in a tropical area and would like the advice of experienced people in the same areas, say florida or singapore or just anyone who would know about this behavior. All my plants right now (one of each): oerstedella, pescatoria, elleanthus, oncidium, brassia, ansellia, miltoniopsis, terrestrial vanda and prhag are sending out new growths, not keikis, but actual leaves and/or pseudobulbs but no flowers or spikes. The only one with flowers at the moment is a prhagmipedium (which is in the last stage of an amazingly long blooming period for that spike).

They are all layered according to lighting needs, outdoors, in a shaded area, which gets southern sun in the morning till up to noon. Mi meter is indicating humidity between 70's and 80's all the time, and i water and fertilize them accordingly.

I'm kind of wondering why when i go to stores or other places i see some of the same ones i have, but they are blooming and mine are not. Maybe i'm a bit melodramatic. But any advice would be highly appreciated, as to why my plants are behaving this way.

thanks,
manuel

I'm not in any way an experienced grower with you type of orchids , but may I ask how long have you had them ? When was the last time any of them bloomed ? Sometimes the grower push their plants to bloom out of season just to be able to sell them. If you look up the blooming season for each one you might have some idea on when they will bloom again . Most plants also experience some kind of setback after the initial blooming due to change in growing condition.

Hi Prisana

Most of them i've had for almost a year and some of them were in bloom when bought, others have bloomed while with me and some others had bloomed several times. The place i get most of them from is not that different from the place i keep them (just a little more love). Most of them are species with no crosses whatsoever (that i know of). I've done some research on most types and the funny thing is that their growing patterns should be somewhat different.

I'ts not that i'm stressed or worried, just wondering why they all decided to grow at the same time.

thanks again
Manuel

Hi mdomingz,
Hey I wish I could say that with my orchids ( all of them are growing at the same time ) Looks like they are in good hands then. I don't know anything about the species, but I'm sure the senior geeks will be more than qualified to help you . Sounds to me like you have nothing else left to do but wait patiently for the burst of all kinds of blooms..I'd like to see the pictures when this happens I'm sure it'll be breath-taking .

Hi,

I'm in south Florida and one grower said to fertilize once a week with a diluted solution. It seems to be working. Most of my orchids have buds or have bloomed in the last year. Hope this helps.
