New to the hobby, New to the site.

Dear Geeks,
I have just recently started keeping orchids. Currently, I keep 2 Phal. 2 Oncidiums, and one hybrid Oncidium, 'Red Spider'. Their conditions range from 65-80F and 60-80percent humidity. Most of them were acquired from clearance ranks at local stores and greenhouses. All in all, i just joined this site and started keeping orchids; i am looking for any information/tips on keeping the ones that i have already acquired. I have been doing some avid reading, and i am very watchful of the environmental conditions. They are all positioned on a plant rack that i acquired from my favorite greenhouse, and most all aspects of their living conditions i can change to meet their needs. Yet again, if anyone has information (any and all) that might pertain to these species and this new found hobby. I should have pictures soon (within a week or so). More importantly, i just wanted to say hi to everyone here!

P.S. - Mercury, 'sweetest' of the transition metals! Suchshi!!

Hi, welcome to the forum. I'm sure you will find an enormous amount of expertise on all subjects relative to your new hobby. You should perhaps ask more specific questions to open the mainstream of information available from the senior members of Geeks. Nice to have you aboard. Bill

Cool old timers with new hobby

Back in the 1960s, when my husband was in high school, he grew orchids in the h.s. greenhouse, so for his 56th birthday, I bought him a membership in an "orchid of the month club" through a Chicago-area nursery. We're up to nine truly fascinating plants now, of several varieties, and we keep them on window shelves in a northwest exposure in not-very-sunny Michigan. Some are thriving, while others have succumbed to our in-expertise, I think. We'll be doing lots of catch-up reading on this site and I'll post more questions when I'm home and can tell you "who" our new orchid friends are...

Hello & welcome to the forum. I look forward to seeing pics of your new collection.

Keep in mind that you will be allowed to attach pics when you have posted, at least, 15 messages on this forum. An alternative before the 15 mark is inserting an image within your message. To do that, use the Go Advance reply method and/or click on the icon with the mountain image just bove this message window, towards the center; then type in the link to where your image is located (e.g. an image hosting site or your own website).

I have just been informed by Dave, site owner, that now only 10 posts are required for posting pictures.
