Cynthia, I have given your skewers a try with my Phal, and what a difference.

No more "guessomatic" trying to decide how dry or moist the potting mix is, I just touch it and you can tell straight away how the mix is doing.

Touch it to a part of your face. Hands are too dirty and might pass on a virus when you put the stick back in the pot. Skewers are not my idea. But I never miss repeating a good idea.

Does the skewer have to be bamboo, or can any wooden stick be used? Bill

Any will work, but I found that the fungi really like the wood in coffee stirrers. The fungi like bamboo too, but not so much, and the bamboo skewers last longer before the wood has to be soaked in a ~10+% bleach solution to kill the fungus and make the sticks normal color again, or just toss and use a new one.
