Physan 20, how much?

Hello everyone,

I just got a small bottle of physan 20 and I want to give it a try. I read the directions, but I want to be positive Ive got it right. I want to add some to the water I use to water my plants as a preventitive. The closest thing on the label I could find was 1 tsp/gallon. Would this be correct for my situation?

As long as you are using it on mature orchids that is what I'd use (am using).
For my seedlings I used a half strength spray (if/when I use it again on them I may go 1/4 strength? as I heard it can be hard on them).

I use 1 tsp/gal. Slightly more or less doesn't seem to matter

Mike, re seedlings -- don't use it with any frequency

How often do you do this?

I don't spray at all unless conditions are favorable for rot. Bacterial rots are opportunistic-- the bacteria are always present, waiting for favorable conditions to start multiplying. This is one reason for keeping room temperature below 80F. Fans circulating air is another preventive, and I use those 24/7.

I spray if it's extremely hot and humid-- 99F or more (condition for rot), long period of rain and gloom (condition for rot), or if plants might be wet when the lights go out in winter. (condition for rot). Ordinary summer rains, no.

I don't use it just to use it. I just keep it around in a spray bottle all the time so it's at hand if I think it's needed. It's a judgment thing.

Well, thank you for the kindly advice, lugviv. I really don't need writing lessons. Repetition is a rhetorical device, used for particular purposes of the writer.

We've been spammed - please don't click that link until a moderator can send it to lala land.

I second Mehitabels suggestion - first to Mayres, please if they don't need it, don't use it. Any chemical regardless of how mild, can and will destroy cells of tiny seedlings.

Whalloper please don't use it as a preventative - preventative for what? You are growing inside and all the conditions Mehitabel listed should not be in your house since you control everything. Using something as a preventative or less than the recommended dosage can lead to problems that develop an immunity to the product.

It is a good product to have on hand but using it without a specific goal is a waste of the product.

Brooke
