Cyms from Tonkin Orchids???

Hi Everyone it has been a while since I wrote anything but I see everyone's posts. I just received some cymbidiums from Ebay and I just have questions about the care and origin of the plants. I am curious because the tags on all the plants have "Tonkin's Orchids, Inc." just in case I want to order direct from the nursery. And so I google them up and found they don't exist anymore. (sad times) Any who, I got like 6 Cymbidiums and they came nicely packed (it was a maze) and healthy. The plants are grown from a back bulb and have one growth with leaves spanning from 1-2 feet. They still probably need more time to grow before it blooms.

I live in Southern, CA and I have two other/older cymbidiums growing outside all year long. For these new babies, is it possible to grow them in house in an Eastside window until Fall and Winter passes? It's just that the weather here is so bipolar. One day it's in the mid 70s (Fareinheit) and the next day from mid 80 to 90F.

Thanks for all your wonderful guidance.

Your "bipolar" weather won't make any difference to your Cymbidiums. All of those temps are comfortably within the range of what they can tolerate and they'll need no protection. Although those temp swings may seem extreme to you, where orchids are concerned, they're not extreme.

If 70F one day and 90F the next is "bipolar" then what is 55F one day and 82F the next? Would that be "raging schizophrenic"? That's what we had this week.

Wow! I don't know. I guess that would be like the movie "The Day after Tomorrow." I guess I should contact my relatives over there then. They too live in Melbourne. Oh and I got the answer to my questions. The ebay seller is somewhat related to the owners of the now gone Tonkin orchid. And what I received was a division from that nursery cymbidiums. The seller said that they planted like around 300 divisions last year. Ok see you later everyone. Bye
