cymbidiums

Hey every one.

I have several Cymbidiums thay all have spikes starting and one is almost opening. Can't quite see the buds yet.

The night temp last night dropped to 33 but we only had a light frost, again tonight the temp is to be similar, 34 36 or so should I start bring them into my unheated work shed, It is insulated and drywalled but no heat it should be several degrees warmer , and should I make this the normal rutine for the next couple of months?

Any advice would be appreciated, they are all a year old and I bought them in spike and bud this time last year, they are all to bloom nov, dec, jan, feb,
or at least that's when they bloomed last time. They do look great, don't want to mess up

Jimmy

Can't wait to hear responses to this. I have two outdoors as well, and don't live too awful far away from you.

The coldest my cymbids have ever got is about 5C (about 40F) but I understand they can tolerate colder, and even frost. But....buds. Hmmmm, I think they should probably get at least some protection. Have you got someplace like a garage that you can put them overnight so the buds are protected from frost?

I protect mine when temps get down around freezing. Of course that is about 10 nights out of the whole winter here. Cyms are very hardy. The protection of an insulated shed should work just fine. If the shed temp gets to freezing then you have to bring them into a warmer area.

Thanks Hummer344, You answered the question of my shed I think I'll try that for a while

I can apply some heat and keep it above freezing till they are a little further along I'll just move them out if it is going to hot

I have 2 cym's which are still outside. The night time temps have gotten as low as 30 degrees. I did bring them in for the one night when it got that cold, but otherwise they ahve been in temps as low as 35 degrees or so with no problems.
