Cold or Warm mist?

Hello all,

I have my spare bedroom all set up for my nursery. I have the temp set to 80F, the humidity set to 55%, and plants on tiers so they get enough sun. Should I set the humidifier to cold or warm mist? Im not sure of the difference. Thanks everyone!!!

Hi, I would suggest room temperature or warm mist over a cool mist unless you need to cool the room down.
In summer I run my mist with cool water as I need to cool the greenhouse down and build up the humidity.
It runs off the rain water tank.
Cheerio

I just moved some of my chids to the guest room and changed my cool mist to warm mist vaporizer. My guest room is much smaller than any other room in the house, so I found the humidity there was 70% this morning!!!!!
It's just great, I didn't know I could get such high humidity in my house. Wow!!! It's just too bad that it gets way too hot in this room during our hot summers, so assuming my chids will survive our winter, they will have to go back to the first level comes spring.....where it's so much more difficult to maintain some reasonable humidity.
Well, my relatives called from LA to say they are going to visit us next week, as I finished moving my chids to the guest room. I just hope my guests like orchids and extra humidity.....

Just out of curiosity, how do you measure humidity in a room?

There is Manny types of humidity measuring gauges that can be bought for US$20 up to US$100.
Most reputable nurserys or Hydroponic shops/supplies can have them in stock also
I use 2 in my setup, one in each end of my orchid house.

Dear koshki, there is a gadget called hygrometer that measures relative humidity. I bought the most simple and cheap digital hygrometers (3 of them) in Walmart for $6 and few cents (sorry I don't remember) each. They are not very reliable as one of them always shows higher humidity than the other two (by about 5-10%). But I have learn to use them now. I have my chids in my bedroom and my guest room (both on the second level) now, so I need at least two hygrometers. Someone here mentioned that they buy their hygrometers in pet stores......

P.S. "koshki" in Russian is plural for "cat". Was this the intent (may I ask)?

Koshki is my family nickname...I'm named after my Polish grandmother, whose name was Kataczna (sp?), or Katherine, which is my given name. I always assumed that it was Polish for Kathy, which only family calls me now. Only my grandfather and my godfather, now both gone, called me Koshki. Interesting that it also means cats in Russian. I guess that makes sense, Kitty is also a nickname for Katherine!
