Long blooming phal.

I have a plant which was bought for me last Christmas. I think it is a Doritaenopsis, but maybe a phalaenopsis. It had two spikes. They bloomed untill about september, but they didn't turn brown. Now, they are continuing to grow at the ends with some new small buds. The two spikes will probably give another wave of blooms by Christmass. The plant is also sending up a third spike.

Is this a sign that the plant is healthy, or that it is desparately trying to reproduce? Is it likely that it will produce a keiki? Is it true that keikis tend to occur on spikes that have lasted for a long time?

If the leaves are green and healthy, no doubt that your plant is happy .
Is not unusual that blooming spikes add few new buds to the previous flowers. When the old bloom is removed but not the entire stalk is cut down, at the lower node a keiki could appear.

Plus there is not rhyme or reason for a keiki to appear. Some varieties will be more likely to grow a keiki while others won't. Enjoy them when they occur and share the plant with someone close once it's at a size to grow on its own.

I have one now and it's just started to grow it's roots. Haven't got a clue on the color of the flowers since this was a rescue so it'll be a double surprise when iti's ready to bloom.
