You are lucky , I wish somebody would leave me a Paphiopedelum. I can't figure why they would have it in regular soil though. They are beautiful when they bloom, you will be glad you took the time to care for it and it will really appreciate it.

I agree it is a paph. More specifically it looks like it could be a vini-colour Maudiae-type (i.e. BEAUTIFUL and DRAMATIC). I would repot it asap. I would use a fine, somewhat moisture retentive mix and keep it gently moist as the culture sheet says. I fear for its roots in that dirt.

Wow, that one is a stunner! I hope mine turns out to be one of those... I will repot it as soon as I receive the special potting mix I ordered, now that I know what it is, thanks to the many replies to my query, yours included. I'll keep you all posted.
