Re-poting a phal

I was repotting my new phals, which were in sphag, when the idea struck me to take pictures. A lot of newbies ask how to get the plant out of the pot then get the sphag out from between the roots. I cut the pots down the sides and take the plant out. I then use my fingers to disloge and remove the sphag and trim bad roots. Below are pictures. Also the size of the old pot and the new pot.

I have found that Phal's seem to want to grow out of the pot, one of my prize winning Phals had really grown out of the pot so I repotted it - it did not like it and died. I have started growing them like they were in the jungles - mounted and they seem to like it. I have tried to grow gigantea's and having tilled several in pots so I mounted the current one which bloomed already and it is 3 years old - most gave up at 12 to 18 months. That eliminated trying to picking pot size and medium because mounted they will grow on any mount and no medium is needed.

YEs, you can mount them, but, for those of us that don't have the climate, greenhouse, or patience to water mounted orchids, I find that repotting them works pretty good.
