I fried it before I even got it home Darn it!

We always stop at a Lowes in a small town between home and our rural property. Their clearance plants are in fine shape and we usually find something to take along and plant. Or bring home and plant.
In this case we picked up a nice fat den out of bloom. Got to the property, started working, and didn't think. Oops. 45 minutes later I did think and pulled it out of a closed Jeep in full sun. Had to be 110. Crap! It was instant damage. Dang it! I could kick myself.

It doesn't look too bad to me. You'll probably loose some leaves but I suspect it will grow on and be ok.

But it's a lesson to be learned isn't it and a word of caution to all. Orchids are like pets or kids. They can't handle being shut up in a searing hot car.

Doesn't look too bad. Good thing you remembered it when you did.

It still looks good to me. Just think.... When it does come into bloom it will have all new growths and leaves and will awesome.

I recommend SPF 45+ in the future, LoL

Thanks for the encouragement guys. seems like sunburn is better than roast. Roast is mushy. I'll wait and see.
We went to a tropical plant show today. We came home with a few new gingers. There were a few orchids there and of course, I was dying to get something new. There were some different ones. A Castseum (SP?), etc. I didn't have hubby approval. "You've got 70 you're trying to handle." Plus we had errands so we had a hot car. I took the bag of gingers into the restaurant were we had lunch so they wouldn't be in the hot car and get fried.

It will be fine! I would have been frustrated as well. Let us know how it turns out.

Catasetum is what you saw. One of my favorites.

There are several threads right now about Catasetums as well as there close relatives. They all fall in the sub-tribe of Catasetinae. The Fdk. After Dark is a complex hybrid from this group.

Ooops. I hate when that happens. Sometimes I buy orchids and then have to do groceries so I'm looking for shade to park under.

The Den. looks OK. It will survive. Just a few battle scars.
