Growing Orchids Outdoors in Southern California

In the process of encouraging the AOS to place a higher priority digitizing some of their excellent out-of-print articles, I ended up digitizing one of my favorite articles of theirs. The AOS was kind enough to post the digitized article on their website...

Growing Orchids Outdoors in Southern California by Susan M. Stephenson

Digitizing the article was super easy. I just typed the article while reading it again! Those of you reasonably proficient at typing should be able to type up an article in only a little less time then it takes you to read an article out loud. Then I took photos of the pictures in the article and added them to the digitized article.

If you have a favorite out-of-print AOS article that would help other orchid hobbyists (sharing is caring!) and would like to support the American Orchid Society...then I highly recommend digitizing your favorite out-of-print article and e-mailing it to the AOS.

For the orchid hobbyists in Southern California don't forget about the upcoming orchid auction this weekend!

CARLOS My Man! I have not heard from you in so long; it's nice to see you!
Great article about outdoor growing, thanks for taking the time to reproduce it for all of us.

Hulaorchid, amersault and I are going to the Burbank orchid auction on Saturday. I have absolutely NO room for even ONE more orchid so I don't know why I am going. Well, we know why I am going who am I kidding.......I hope to see you there!!

Glad to hear that the Orchid Geeks will be well represented at the auction!! Not sure if anybody else is interested but that morning there will be a Fern and Exotic Plant Show at the LA Arboretum. It starts at 9am so I plan on stopping by to see if there are any interesting companion plants that my orchids would like to hang out with.

The auction should be fun and informative. It's the same auctioneer we had last year and hopefully he'll mention some educational tidbits about the orchids like he did at the last auction. I also look forward to sitting back and being highly entertained by some bidding wars.

If any Orchid Geeks have any time after the auction and would be interested in a tour of my orchids feel free to PM me for my address. My house is only a couple minutes from the 5 freeway. Here's some of my orchids that are currently in bloom...

Bifrenaria inodora
Dendrobium chrysotoxum
Dendrobium teretifolium
Encyclia bractescens
Encyclia citrina
Sedirea japonica
Vanda cristata
Vanda tricolor v suavis
