should I repot?

I need opinions on whether two of my orchids need repotting. The first 2 pics are Pot. Burana Beauty, pics 3&4 are of Slc Miyuki Little King. They both have new growth, but to me they seem alittle pot bound. Would these be a good candidate for S/H? I am awaiting shipment from First Rays to try my hand at S/H but certainly don't want to do anything to upset the apple cart. Geeks to the rescue please!

I am a little biased when it comes to potting media. I do think that the one in the first picture needs repotted, but don't take my word for it, wait til someone else that uses bark comes along and can give better advice. I only use aliflor for potting media on all my orchids. I hate bark and I feel like it's just dirty and gross...but that's just me and my mental problems, lol

I would at least repot the first one, the mix looks broken down to me. The second one looks like the roots are growing out of the pot, maybe time for a bigger pot, so in my opinion I would repot both.

In my opinion, cattleya alliance orchids repot better when new roots are growing (I can't tell that from the photos). Please consider waiting until you see a new flush of roots. This would be especially true if you are going to switch into a new media like S/H. They do look like they could use it....

syndywindy I am new to S/H but so far the Encyclias that I have potted are doing well let's say one is fantastic and the other is just sitting there. The one I dumped and the roots had adhered to about three pieces of Leca; which Jay says is good. And Jay is the S/H guru.
I'm getting ready to put a Brassovola into S/H in fact I have the Leca soaking in Worm Tea. Good luck on your repot.

I don't have any orchids in S/H
but the first orchid needs a repot for a few reasons
1) its sitting to high in that pot
2) the medium could be better
3) as I look at some of those roots they don't look to good it looks like to me that had been repotted once without doing anything with the roots placed in a pot and just filled with bark medium.

the second one could just be repotted into the next size up pot.

I am sure Jay will be along soon to guide you with S/H
