I would like to see a pic of a keiki growing on a stem if anyone can post one. I cannot find such a pic on any commercial site. Thanx,Bill

Here is a pic of a dendrobium that has a couple of keikis on one of the parent stems. It is in the period right now of loosing most of its leaves for the winter and looks to be potentially setting buds. Once the keikis develop roots I will remove them and pot them up! :-)

Hi Mike, thanks for pic; it gives me a good view of a keiki. I understand from other posts that phals often produce keikis on the stems. Is there any technique to encourage this to happen? Bill

there is something out there called Keiki Paste. I have not used it nor do I have any experience with it. Just go to google and type in "Keiki Paste orchid" and see what show up. The price is in 8-12 dollar range.

Genetics plays a a major role in keikis forming on phal stems. Some have a natural predisposition to do this a lot and others must be coerced. Of course the "happier" your plant is the more likely this is to happen as well. I have removed one keiki from a phal stem and potted it up - bloomed in 18 months with just one bloom. Looking forward to a second more significant bloom this winter. Here is one EXCELLENT link to photo essay on phal keikis http://www.easyorchids.co.uk/site/content/view/30/71/
Here is a link to a site you can purchase keiki paste from - I have not tried them but linked them earlier when I was considering same http://www.orchidmall.com/hormones/keikiord.htm
enjoy! mike

MIke, that is a super article on keiki propagation! I was intending to ask how the keiki was removed and potted on but you have given it all to me in one essay complete with pics.
