| Just bought a "Colmanara Sphacante" but find no Google matches or book references. Other name(s)? Recommended sources? Above plant needs division. An orchid source recommends using a substance to seal the cut(s), as one would when removing a tree branch. Another source recommends simple wax or glue. Recommendations? Thanks & Aloha.. |

| Thanks Thanks re: division advice; search continues for info on care for plant. Bought plant w/ about 13 pseudobulbs & it's about 1/2 out of pot, so definitely ready for division. Label indicated AM/AOS & I got it for $12, so I feel I got a good deal, despite lack of spike remnants in last few years. |

| NBS = near blooming size AOS stands for American Orchid Society, the organization that awards orchids. So the awards they give in order of highest to lowest are: FCC = First Class Certificate AM = Award of Merit HCC = Highly Commended Certificate There are other awards for things like cultural (CCM, certificate of cultural merit?), a group of seedlings from the same pod (dont know what that is called), botanical merit (CBM?), and probably a few others.
