Enc radiata

Hi fellow Geeks,

My mum gave me this orchid today. This is my first Encyclia.
Any help in care and cultivation would be greatly appreciated !

It's lovely and looks very healthy. I'm the asking sort rather than the advising sort so I'll be watching advice to you.

In my experience...this group appreciates a bit more water than most cattleya...especially during the warmer months.

Yes, katrina's right Prostechea and Encyclias can take more water than cattleyas. Thanks for raising that point.

It has a honey-like smell.
I think it is time-sensitive - Sometimes the smell is very strong, other times, I can't sense anything.

Same here Jenny...my enc/psh don't need as much light to bloom as most catts but they can take the extra light if they have it.

Kevin- you are very welcome. I learned the watering needs of this group the hard way...and I must say...pleated leaves on an psh is not attractive.

Great to hear that this little fella doesn't need as much light as most catts. I always have trouble getting my catts to rebloom, though they put out lots of pseudobulbs. I understand that this is usually due to lack of light.

So fingers crossed that my enc will do better!
