Successful Cym division

A few months ago my first cymbidium froze a little to hard so I decided to do an experiment with it. I Divided it into single bulbs (about 6) I put one in S/H and the rest I sphag and bagged. Then I forgot about them....

Yesterday I was looking for something among my orchid supplies and I saw a flash of bright geen in the back of the shelf. One of the forgotten Cyms sprouted a new growth, and when I checked the rest, and they ALL had new growth on them! Two of them had two new growths! It was a pleasant surprise.

I have put them back into their bags until I have time to repot them (Finals week). Ill keep you updated on their progress if you wish.

Nice. I usually don't always get 100% success from backbulbs. Looks like you're going to have several Cyms. in the future.

Good job getting those back bulbs to take. It's always good to know that you can do that.

Congrats on the new growths from the back bulbs. That is great. Are you going to plant them all in S/H? Or are you going to experiment a little with each? I look forward to the results.

Oh wow thanks everyone! And thanks for the luck on finals, I need all the help I can get!

Jay, I think two will go into S/H when they start growing roots. I was going to try a few different things with the others. Im considering planting one in a garden box which has a lid so I can grow Veggies in the winter. I think a Cym would be plenty warm in there!

Stelios-I think the formula for success is time and patience. If you add in some absent mindedness like I did the time flies! Mine do not yet have any roots but I will pot them up when they show signs of rooting.
