Can water filtered by a Brita system be used to water orchids.

I'm just wondering or would distilled water be more recommended.

Up until about 1 month back all I used was filtered tap water. The plants never seemed to mind.

I am sure they would rather have the distilled. I use to do distilled, but it is too pricey for me to keep that up. I water with tap water. Tara

Brita filters only remove heavy metals and organic compounds but not dissolved ions. So if you have a large amount of calcium in your water it will not remove these things. distilled R/O water is better. IMO it is more cost effective to just use tap water and flush with distilled when calcium starts building up.

I'll second what Myxamatosis just said! I use tap water mostly.

I have a friend who bought a fancy rain barrel and collects rain and uses it during the summer. Tara

I just use tap water. If we had enough rain to bother collecting, I would use that.lol. I think it would evaporate faster that it would collect.

I use what little rain water I manage to collect in an old kitchen trash bin and unfiltered, untreated tap water. I know lots of people who use RO water. I would not recommend distilled water. In my opinion, filtered water is not different enough from tap water to make any noticeable difference in orchids.
