Three flower spikes!

I am tickled, surprised, thrilled, and really shocked that this plant has rewarded me with three (count 'em, three!) flower spikes. This is a Onc. Space Race "Coco"... Enjoy!

It does! Not quite as fragrant as some others I have blooming right now, but subtle and delicate. Every time I go visit my plants these past few days I swear I'm going to hyperventilate...the Epi. Green Hornet and a really cool Epc.x Encycl. hybrid are knocking my socks off...

These things are just sooooo much fun!

Thanks, Jacqui...but I can't be as cocky about the Epi and Epc cross...I purchased both in spike.

Uh-huh...with my Stanhopea, things ARE worse... I purchased it in spike in January...and once I got it home the buds just shriveled and fell off. RATS! So, imagine my glee when about three weeks ago I saw another couple of buds shoving their way through the side of the plastic pot!

Now, imagine my dismay when they, too, after teasing me with plump buds, shriveled up and fell off... my cry for help will be on a different thread...but I just had to whine a little here...

That's quite a display! Good growing! I really like that is has some other color in it, brown, than the regular yellows I've been seeing.

Sorry about the stanhopea, hope it perks up.

Beautiful Oncidium!! I have the hardest time growing them for some reason; I will live vicariously through yours.

Thanks, y'all. I've no clue what I'm doing right with my Oncidium collection...perhaps neglect? hahahaaa Vandas are my downfall, though I've recently learned the things I'm doing wrong...I need to water and fertilize more and deal with those darned ol' thrips!!! Well, and that darned stanhopea...*sigh* I was soooo close...

Connie, have you tried the Oncidium equitants? They are cute and really easy!

Nice job on the rebloom. I'm trying to learn to tough it out too when things go bust. Speaking of oncidium equitants I had one that did so well on neglect, tripled in size in two years and put out a spike. It came in a couple of times for the freezes we had and it got too much attention and too much water and I wasn't noticing the problem. It is about 80% dead with a shriveling spike. Pooh!!

lmartiny, I am convinced that, for some of these lovely plants, you've hit the nail on the head...less care is more! For my first plants, I nearly cared for them to their death.

Here's a great example. I purchased an overstuffed (uh, 2 inch pot) Onc. equitant plant that I divided into multiples... I took this as a learning opportunity. I mounted three of the divisions...one on a chunk of oak, one on a fern plaque, one on a big ol' piece of driftwood, and the rest in little pots with charcoal as the medium...maybe 5 or 6 pots. Guess what lived? Guess what's blooming as I type? The mounts...all three of them. I don't think any of the potted attempts survived. Why? Dunno...but I will say I focused way more attention on the pots than I did the mounts... I'm kind of windy tonight, but the point is the hardiness of those little guys! I have added several more equitants to my collection, simply because of this little blast of sunshine you see below...how can you not grin just looking at those happy little flowers?

I love Tolumnia's! I have 6 of them. Mine are starting to reflower on the spike.

Yours is a beauty! I love the color! I don't have one like that! Let me know if you divide again!! I would love a division of it!

Great job growing!!

Dt. Thanks for the pep talk. Your flowers are quite pretty. I think I'll check that onc and repot anything left and we'll see.
Still love your avatar.

Good growing! I am constantly amazed at the hardiness of plants. I grow a lot of succulents and talk about hardy! I've got a PILE of cuttings that I've had hardening on my work table outside for about 2 months now. They are still looking good! Think I'll pot 'em up next month.

beautiful!

I have two phals that lost all their roots and had shriveled leaves, I tried everything to make them grow new roots, when I gave up and put them in a plastic bag to throw them out later (and forgot about it) they grew a new leaf and a root

Ah-ha! I just learned something... Tolumnia = Oncidium equitant! (yes, folks, she CAN be taught!)
