I am happy to see what they can grow into, I just one and was not sure what to repot it in and how, now I have a better idea. That is a nice looking plant you have there.

This is the PERFECT example of my observations that some orchids appear to not need repotting yearly with fresh medium. I keep reading about the need to make sure the stuff the plant is growing in is not stale, roots are live and viable, etc. But it seems to me the specimen plants are the opposite of those recommendations...they just grow and grow, completely undisturbed in their happy little environment. Kevin, would you want to address this on your myth-busters thread? Since my goal is to have at least a few large speciman plants I really need to understand how to get the plants there - other than the passage of time, that is. Thoughts, please!!!

I don't think it was for sale. I believe it was given to him. I don't know how old it was, but the thing was huge. I did not believe it was a kingianum at first. Then I saw and smelled the flowers. It was really so big that I could not have "hugged" it and touched my hands together.

Someone in our orchid society sold one crowding out a one gallon bucket two weeks ago - same white color as the one Jay posted - for $15. She said she sells lots of them that size - hers just keep putting out keikis and she pots them up and they all grow like crazy! The person who purchased the one I noted gave me one of the keikis on it to try - so we'll see how fast they grow FOR ME. |

The man I bought mine off of said it would double its size in 1 year! Mine is stuffed in a 6" pot and in need of a repot! Wow that would be nice and so fragrant!!!

Jacqui mine has done very well being a bit crowded with lots of light and water. I have in in a coco husks/cym mix. I don't understand why so many growers are always in a hurry to divide and repot such specimens??????

hulaorchid, I totally agree with you, when someone has specimen plant everyone wants you to divide it, I like my specimen plants. My large Lou Sneary was not divide other than a couple of sprigs for people I knew wanted one. I just put it in a larger basket and will wait until it out grows that then I may think about it. Thanks for all the information on the Den. kingianum, now I have an idea of how I will repot mine
