| Momilani question
My Momilani Cattleya is doing so well. It has loads of new roots and three Spikes. Now by Spikes I mean leaf spikes. Will these possibly have new flowers Will I ever have flowers on the old growth again![]() Terry |

Old Cattleya pseudobulbs do not flower again but the new shoots will flower. Mine have been blooming in past years in March April and May with some holding off until October thru December. I do not have any records to indicate that they may be a twice a year bloomer. I will have to watch closer since all the ones I have now bloomed this past December. Your new growth means yours is right on schedule. You have a lot to look forward to.

lmartiny, I make it a practice to never cut off a cattleya sheath unless it has already flowered, died, and dried up. Even if the sheath is dried and brown, I leave it if it has not flowered because it can still flower. I've had cattleyas have dried brown sheaths for years then all of a sudden they flower. As Jerry siad those pseudobulbs which have flowered will not flower again but as you surmised they do continue manufacture and store energy for the plant.

Terry: I have the same plant that I purchased from a nursery in Hawaii in 2006. The first sheath that formed was empty and never flowered. It finally gave me two flowers in December 2008. So, no expert here, but my experience was December blooms.
