Unhappy new spike rotting off at tip

Hi I have a phal 2yrs old that has flowered a couple of times.Recently a new spike grew to about 5inches then began to wither and die off at the tip. I cut off the spike at the bottom thinking I had somehow damaged it, soon after another spike appeared and the same thing happened again. The leaves are green and healthy looking apart from a redish colour underneath some of them. the flowers are purple when out. Hope some-one can help me and my plant.
Mo.

If your phal has already bloomed a couple times, it was obviously in general good health up until now. The spikes rotting now sounds like something going on which could be rotten roots and re-pot needed, or perhaps some other problem. When is the last time you checked the roots? Post a picture when you can.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I wonder if what you are calling rotting might possibly be bud blast. Are the blooms browning and drying up? If so this is bud blast and not rot.

If they are turning brown, slimy/soft, then that would be a form of rot.

Bud blast can be due to dry air, change in environment, or many other factors. A picture would really help.

Thanks for your help. I have not checked the roots will do so now. The spike is not getting to the budding stage just the growing tip. Looks fine one day then the next tip has turned whitish then shrivles at which time I cut it off. Sorry no photos as I have already cut off the spike.
