Making Vanda produce new roots?

A couple of months ago I bought this very attractive mid purple vanda. It still has flowers on it (very wilted tho). It was in a big, tallish pot (probably an 8 inch), and when I pulled it out of the bark it only had one very dessicated but longish root.

I have been waiting for new roots, but so far nothing!

I have tried soaking and mild fertilizing, but am unsure what to do. The leaves are yellowing and falling off, one by one but the plant is still healthy enough that the flowers haven't died (after about 2 months!).

How do I encourage new roots?? And how do I keep it alive until it produces roots? Or should I just chalk it up as a "learning experience"?

What's your humidity level like? Vandacous orchids love their humidity.

We live in coastal Qld (about half hour to Moreton Bay), so humidity is pretty high. Maybe not high enough for a Vanda tho.

Whats' an easy way to promote humidity (I have it out in a shady bit of the garden near our frog pond)

how about light? You might need enough light for the vanda to grow? I think it is high time for you to buy a light meter -about $30.

No, that not the problem (I don't think anyway).

It is out in the garden, some full/ dappled sun, some shade.

It's a bit of a balancing act, as I don't want too much sun/ heat, as it will dry out more, and doesn't have the roots to suck up more moisture.

put some worm tea on it then,or calcium nitrate to encourage rooting. That what the old timer taught me.
