Vanilla Rehab

This Vanilla cutting is what brought me to Geeks, looking for advice. Once it rooted and grew some I moved the little thing to a big old 8" pot (I know better know) with a hand made trellis thing. Its been moved around and jiggled in it's big old pot and largely ignored. The newest top growth died from lack of water when we were away in October. There is no new growth since. I finally tended to it and repotted into a smaller pot. The roots were pretty good but sparse. The new support may not work as it is a bit unweildy/unsettled as yet. I gently tied it into a straighter growth and I put a couple of stones on top to hold it all steady. I recall reading in a freind's book it is terrestrial so I had it in soil. I repotted in soil mixed with bark. I know it is vining. I'm not sure on light. Most of what I read focused on the one day bloom and pollenating for the bean, etc.
So here it is for now. Any advice?

look like a healthy plant. Do you have natural light for the plant?

I have no personal experience with vanilla, but my book endorses bright light (morning or afternoon direct light, preferably morning, noon shade) but doesn't endorse a potting medium. I hope one of the other geeks have more info 'cause I'm curious now. Good luck with it.

Digitalgate, it does get natural light. I just brought it in to get a picture of it.
Perky, thanks for looking it up for me.
I'm currently monitoring the light situation in the yard as we are moving into spring and the light will begin to shift. We've also got the oaks filling back in after their annual leaf drop.

How cool! I saw a vanilla orchid when we went to pick up my daughter Ruth, in Disney last year. It was in an exhibit called The Land. It was huge! ( growing in a greenhouse) It tends to climb up trees. I don't think that I have enough room for one! Some day when I have a greenhouse!!
