Please tell me I did this right! So I was looking at my orchid and I noticed that there was some white fungus stuff growing in the side of my pot. So I took my orchid out of the pot and noticed that all of my roots were dead. I pinched the roots and they all collapsed and in some of them there was some black goopy stuff in them. So I cut all of them off and I left all the roots, maybe 4 of them, that were still alive, they were maybe an inch or less long. Take a look at the pictures and please tell me I did the right thing. Does it still have a chance? I repotted it and watered it. Is there anything else I should do? copy this into your address bar to look at the pictures .flickr.com/photos/pizzies/ thanks for looking (put www infront of url the forum wouldnt let me post pictures or a full url so I had to do it this way)

The picture of the roots cut off is too fuzzy to see their condition. If they were all mushy then you did the right thing. I would encourage you to use superthrive or other root stimulant to encourage root recovery. I would cut the rest of that brown flower spike clear off at the base. What media did you replant into? Of course you want to be careful not to over-water which is what probably caused the problem to start with. Keeping the humdity up (if possible) will probably help in the recovery. It is recoverable but will take a significant amount of time. You might do a search on Sphag and Bag as a way to keep humidity up during recovery. Good luck. mike

Hey, thanks for the reply, I repotted in orchid bark. I have heard of the bag trick to keep the humidity up, it probably would be a good idea to do. Thanks for the input. Jonathan
