Requesting Keiki Care Confirmation

This phalaeonopsis has I believe a healthy keiki. I want to verify I am cutting the keiki off at the correct spot and that I identify the roots and old flower spike correcty.
After cutting off the keiki, I put it in potting soil including covering the roots correct?
The mother plant has not been replanted: I wait until the current blooms drop, correct?
Thank you for your interest and encouragement.

Your Keiki has plenty of roots so its safe to cut off and either pot or mount. Care is the same as the parent plant. You should never use potting soil on a Phal. Some use sphagum moss or a bark mixture (I prefer bark over moss).
Check out the link for care guidelines for your Phal.

welcome to Geeks!

yes, you have a healthy keiki that, at this point, can be separated from the parent. potting medium differ from grower to grower. some prefer sphagnum moss, others fine bark, some grow in coir, while still others prefer to mount rather than pot. it all depends on your level of comfort and none of the options are wrong (a Phal will do well in any of the previously mentioned media).

in this case, you can try for a pot, but will you have one that will fit the root mass?

on repotting the parent, i would wait till the bloom completely terminates before doing so.

good luck and keep us posted.

I agree with the other 2, that you can cut the keiki away from its' mother plant where you have your arrows. I like Schultz potting mix for orchids. I get mine at Walmarts. It has bark, charcoal and absorbent rock pieces. Pot it up and keep the mixture moist to almost dry. Good luck and keep us posted! You don't need to wait for the blooms to fade to separate the keiki.

should cut the spike closest to the Keiki (without harming the Keiki) Since it has its own root. It can be grown on it own root and leaves. Now that you get two plant for the price of one. what are you going to do about it? Put pine bark into a 4 inch pot with the keiki on top of bark. Then cover a thin layer of sphag moss on top of it(use clean ones not recycled old media) That should retain water and dry out fairly easily.
