Yes Nadine it is very bad. It needs to be repotted into a container with drainage holes. Your question will also get more responses if you start your own thread in the care section but welcome to the forum nice to meet you.

Great to have you with us! That baby will rot in no time if it's not moved fairly soon, I'm afraid. Check out these 2 links...

Ohhh my, A sure receipe for the plant to die. As above I would repot it ASAP. Makes you wonder why the retail business does things like this. When the plant dies people get the impression that orchids are hard to grow and never buy another one.

Welcome, glad you found us.

Because placing the orchid inside a nice glass container gives the plant more face value, hence making it more attractive for the consumers.

Yes it definitely needs to be re potted into a pot with drain holes. If you pot in bark, be sure to soak the bark for several hours before using it to pot your orchid. The bark needs to be soaked so that it will retain moisture and not just let the water run through when you water your plant.

I rescued one like that and the moss was packed so tight round the roots- it was like concrete. Try to move it out of that container as soon as possible.

I worked at Lowes as a vendor for their Garden Dept. and the lady there said that orchids in the decorative pots need to just dry after a good watering...so like once a month. What do you guys think about that?

Kayla, decorative pots with no holes will kill your orchids in no time. It matters how long they sit in the water. You need a pot with holes for air flow and water drainage. I water every 7 days, that is how long it takes mine to almost dry out. Do not leave in water for a month they will rot.

All the above suggestions and recommendations are great except for the one given by the lady saying once a month of watering.

I wonder how about once a year of bathing.

Welcome! I'm sure you will enjoy your stay.

Cheers!

1) I think "The Lady" is making some grave over generalizations, the kind that result in dead orchids - "Orchids in decorative pots" but what kind of orchids? Different orchids as we know have different watering requirements.
2) I think "The Lady" sounds like she might not know anything about general orchid culture.
3) I think any recommendation to water on a set schedule fails to recognize that watering frequency depends heavily on the kind of mix and pot the orchids is in along with the temperature and humidity of the growing area. Most people do water on a fairly regular schedule but only after figuring out how fast things dry out in their own conditions.
