| Do U kno this guy..???
I found him from a nearby nursery....He was growing like a weed.. The grower told me that it has got white flowers..But did not know its name. How unlucky.I know, it is an impossible task to identify an orchid from a pic, especially when it is out of bloom. But I believe that there should be some one who at least know to which category this guy belong to. Hopefully waiting for a reply... |

I think there's a good chance mgfree is right. It very well could be Den crumenatum. The very swollen bases of the canes are (as far as I know) quite distinctive and unique among Dendrobium. If it is crumenatum though you've got a fairly small straggly plant and it may require some patience for it to get up to flowering size.

| that not how i flower this. A good long raining season is needed before it will flower. A drop in temperature that accompany the rainy weather will initiate the spike. All this happen with the leave Still on it.

Digitalgate - My crumenatums have never flowered with leaves on them. They only seem flower from the old leaf nodes on the end of a cane. ![]() I'm not sure whether it's different closer to the equator? But round here they are a really good indication that we will have rain - the more flowers, the more rain. My father has a bunch of these all over his palm trees. About a week before we had a heap of heavy rain in January (300mm in 24hrs), they put on a massive display, bigger than I have ever seen them put on before. They flowered again last week, not as many flowers though, and subsequently not as much rain (100mm in 24hrs). It might just be an old wives tale?
