Greenhouse or "growing room"?

I've been collecting material and trying to decide where to locate a larger greenhouse. However as the winter still has it's clutches on us, I am considering a different design.

The cost to provide heat is considerably more than the cost to provide light. Instead of a mostly insulated glass and polycarbonate structure, what about a 2x6 well insulated wall, waterproofed on the inside. A few windows and one or two skylights, but lit with MH and HPS. Power consumption is halved. Total climate control with exhaust vents and misting.

Not for the southern climates but I can see it that it might have a place up here. Like a grow room in the basement?

I like my sunroom not just because it's a whole lot cheaper than a greenhouse (which I would love to have as well!!) and it's easier to regulate temp with the door open/shut between the house and sunroom, but I can walk in anytime just as into any other room in the house. Even in my 'jammies!

I would love to have a greenhouse but I think after growing in bed room for so long i couldn't live without at least having one room in the house for them lol. I guess when I move into an appartment I'm going to have to get used to not growing them in my room lol.

I used to have two guest rooms, now I have one guest room and an orchid room! Either my guests can get used to all sleeping in one room, or some of them can sleep with the orchids. I actually have a few relatives mad about this - no more 'California Hilton.' I told them Hey! my orchids live here all year, you don't!

I love having my orchids in the house and I visit them several times a day, even in my pj's (Laura!). Or should I say Especially in my pj's! It is very easy to control the temp by opening or closing a door/window or the heat/air conditioning vent. (the room, not my pj's) I haven't really noticed a change in my electric/gas bill and I don't have a bug problem. With all that said, I am thinking about building a little Catt house outside and it would need just a little heater and maybe a few little vents........

I think i would preffer a greenhouse instead of having all the plants in the living rooms and bathroom. Sure i ould keep a dozen of plants in house when in bloom but i would prefer better conditios for them in a greenhouse.
There is a car dealer next to a hospital i visited that is closing, i passed by and asked what kind of glass they had. It turns out 0.4" bulletproof. I proposed that i could buy the glass for a low price and he said that the hospital will be expanded so everything will be demolished so i could take whatever i want except the cars if i can carry it! So i am know checking prices on movers... if not to expensive i could take the glass and later i could save for an aluminum frame
