Newbie in Orchids

Cheers,

I just joined here and still a newbie at orchids just started about 3 months ago.
Anyways, I just bought this Dendrobium and it was really pretty as it is already
started to bloom (the seller calls it mother plant, no idea what that is) and it
has about 4 new spikes, 5 including the big one (or plantlets, dont know the
exact term), and 1 of them is already starting to bloom also. So when I got
home and about to place it on the garden, I saw that one of the spikes is
broken halfway through, that's when I decided to just split the new spikes.
But in doing so, I accidentally snapped that halfbroken spike. Is there a
chance that this poor thing could still grow or is this gonna die? it doesnt have
roots because it snapped just above the root line. I still placed it in a pot
and used charcoal and coconut husk as medium hoping that it would still live,
grow and continue to bloom.

thanks.

The stalks are called canes. If you broke a flower spike it won't grow. If it is a broken off cane, it might root. I'm not sure. Someone will know.

! As Imartiny stated, it depends on what part you're speaking of. A spike is the part that actually blooms. A picture would really help. Once you've posted 5 times, you may post a picture. In the mean time, here's a link ->
AOS | Dendrobium

Good luck, and keep us posted!
