Phals, roots leaves and never looking to hot

For all my green graces in cats, paphs. vegetables, and trees I am having alot of trouble with phals. Often noted as the 'easiest to grow' I have not been able to keep on from rotting.

The 'chid in subject is a larger monocot (i think all phals are monocots...) nine leafs in total, two bloom spikes atm. I initially over watered the poor thing and lost alot of root mass. after slowing the watering and learning the skewer method I imagine the roots are doing better. I was told the yellowing of my lower leafs was due to the compromised roots. This would make perfect sense except I have two bloom spikes soaring up (largest around 1.5'-2') and roots budding out of the side of the plant between the first and second leaf pairs.

So the question is: Can a compromised root structure terminate a leaf with out affecting the rest of the plants cycle? Also the leaf that has been 'kicked' will it have a long drawn out death?

It depends.

For one, if you have significant root loss, then the entire plant will be affected.

and two, if you have one yellowing leaf, but the roots have recovered, then the plant won't be further affected except for the yellow leaf.

yes, it will be a long drawn out death for that leaf. probably will take one week or 2 weeks for that yellow leaf to compeletly die.

It's quite normal for the bottom leaf or two, to be shed during the growing season. If it's sending up spikes, and the other leaves are fine, I say no problem!
