I cannot be certain what is causing this and I hope someone else can help you. In the meantime, here is a website that has some information and, I believe, you can write them, send a picture and ask them for help (it is an Orchid Society in Florida): http://staugorchidsociety.org/PDF/Or...ySueBottom.pdf |

This looks like it could just be cold damage. Some sensitive Vanda species and hybrids might be damaged by temperatures as warm as 12-15C, especially if wet, or if cold rain hits warmer foliage. Vanda Blue Magic is not a registered hybrid so I don't know if it has much sensitive ancestry, though I wouldn't have expected a typical blue Vanda to be damaged unless it got close to 5C. If it is cold damage there isn't much you can do except watch to see if rot develops. Leaves may die, but as long as there is some healthy stem and root tissue there is a change the plant can survive. If it isn't cold damage then I think bacterial or fungal rot is more likely than virus. With this much damage I would expect it to be expanding rapidly. If you want to treat it with something don't wait, pick something and try. Waiting will only make it worse. If it was my plant I would probably just isolate it and see how it goes, since it isn't something irreplaceable. It could possibly be mite damage, but I would expect that when it is warm and dry not as it is getting colder, and enough mites to cause this should be obvious. |
